Lunapads celebrates 100 year anniversary of International Women’s Day with a site-wide sale
March 8, 2011, Vancouver, BC – Lunapads International, a woman-owned business that makes and sells cloth menstrual pads and organic cotton period panties, is celebrating International Women’s Day with its annual three day sale.
March 8, 2011 marks the 100 year anniversary of International Women’s Day, a day of global celebration of women and recognition of their achievements and contributions to society.
While many businesses offer sales around back to school or the winter holiday season, Lunapads co-founders Madeleine Shaw and Suzanne Siemens chose International Women’s Day in order to give the day greater visibility. “Women’s achievements are something that we can all celebrate, regardless of culture or religion” notes Siemens.
“I started Lunapads almost 2 decades ago in order to provide women with products that would support their health as well as that of the planet. While we are fortunate that we have the honour of sharing our vision with women every day, in particular, International Women’s Day is an important opportunity to highlight women’s achievements globally,” says Shaw. “It’s an opportunity to be reminded of our power as women and to connect with one another.”
Lunapads’ goal is to help women have healthier and more positive experiences of their menstrual cycles, and by extension, their bodies overall. By providing women with a healthier, more eco-friendly alternative to disposable pads and tampons, Lunapads also invites women to create more positive and informed relationship with their bodies, one other and the Earth.
The Lunapads message is well received by customers as a welcome change from other cultural messages that often present women’s monthly periods as unclean or shameful.
In recognition of this important date, Lunapads is offering 20% off everything on their website, www.lunapads.com, from March 8 - 10, 2011. “It's our way of saying ‘thank you’ to our over 100,000 customers in 40 countries,” says Siemens.
International Women’s Day is a day to celebrate women's economic, political and social achievements. “As a mission based business, Lunapads is an example for other women that personal power as well as social change can be achieved through progressive entrepreneurship” says Shaw.
