I have wanted to try these for a while now, but the cost of building up a supply has always held me back. It’s wasteful but cheaper to get a package of Always. I am also concerned about leaking…well, was concerned. The pill has made my period all but disappear. With such a light flow, I am more tempted to try the cloth pads. I also wonder how long they take to dry after hand washing. I try not to do laundry to often as I have to use coin-op machines. Having a fresh pad ready would be difficult (impossible) if I only had one or two pads to use.

I spent a month this past summer in rural Northern Uganda and discovered there were many young girls missing school a week at a time because of their menstrual period. They didn’t have access to menstrual pads and faced humiliation from classmates when spotting occured. Many of them eventually fall behind in course work and drop out of school. One of the problems in Uganda, is they don’t have a garbage disposal system. Garbage litters the streets. I started searching the internet to see what options were available, as opposed to the disposable  menstrual pad, and discovered the lunapad and diva cup. I’m intrigued by the concept, but am concerned about leaks, cleaning of the product, and cost. It would be great to trial the product personally to see if this could be a solution, not only for greening my period, but to bring back as a possible solution to those girls in Uganda who touched my life.

I just saw your PADS4GIRLS program and think it’s amazing! I’m excited to see you are already connecting with girls in Uganda providing the menstrual period necessities that allow them to stay in school. I would love to see this program expanded into the Oyam district.
