Meet our Intern (alumnus): Nancee

I’ve been given the opportunity to introduce myself in between editing videos late at night and listening to some favorite tunes. So here we go.
First off my name is Nancee Zhang. I was born on January 10th 1990, in Kitchener Ontario, but moved over to B.C when I was 5 years old. I lived for the majority of my teenage years in Walnut Grove, Langley, in a small suburban environment with elementary school, high school, and local restaurants within a few minutes’ walking distance from my house. Needless to say, when I finally left my small town for UBC after high school graduation in 2008, I was thrilled to finally enter the big beautiful city. The city is full of opportunity!
Currently, I’m studying Commerce at UBC, specializing in Finance and about to enter my third year of university in fall 2010. This summer I am working as a marketing Intern for Lunapads! My least favorite stereotype is that math brains can’t deliver creativity! I have a good arsenal of video production experience in my background from being both the film and drama geek in high school. In the past few years, I’ve written screen plays, acted in school productions, and filmed for ICBC, BC Hydro, as well as some work for some volunteer film work for Amnesty International. Drama, film and writing are huge passions and I can see how these passions segue well into forms of marketing. It is my dream to combine knowledge in corporate finance with marketing in my future career. At Lunapads I’ve been given a fantastic opportunity to once again return to my film roots, creating online viral video campaigns, commercials and interview type videos for the company
My aim is to create fun, original, to the point videos that spark thought and curiosity in those who may become interested in what Lunapads has to offer. Other business work at Lunapads has been a delight; seeing a business run up close and personal rather than from in a text book has been an absolutely priceless experience. Moreover, watching women run their own business has been as well, empowering. When I’m in the office, I am surrounded by an atmosphere of women supporting women, friendship, and at the end of the day a combination of hard work, professionalism, and relaxed fun.
In terms of the actual product, I admit the idea of reusable menstrual pads has caused me to become curious about my options as a woman at that time of the month. It is of course curiosity with a touch of apprehension and intimidation by the product. Women of my age group have grown accustomed to disposable tampons and pads and simply getting their period “over with” each month. It is an enormous shift to enter into the new Lunapads mindset, a mindset where your period and Mother Nature are not your enemies. As overwhelming as it all may seem to make this transition, I see my age group as open minded and open to change, given that the change is a smart decision. It is exciting for me, to not only work for Lunapads, but serve as a representative of this growing demographic of Lunapads customers, young girls who are becoming women and interested in having and making new positive choices for their bodies.
