We often get asked what the difference is between The DivaCup and tampons. As is the case with disposable pads and Lunapads, it really is a bit of an apples and oranges situation, however this video answers some important questions about differences in size and respective amounts of waste generated.
How did you hear about reusable menstrual products?
Lunapads.
Please describe your monthly needs:
Unpredictable. Usually my period starts early, despite being on birth control, and it starts with shedding which is so annoying. That can go on for 2 days. Other times it just starts heavy for 2 days, then light for the rest. I have severe cramps the first 3 days, and I toss and turn all night.. sleep, whats that?
If you are currently using disposable products, which ones do you use, and for what needs?
I currently only use disposable products for swimming. I really hate staying out of the pool when I have my period, and tampons just work for that. However, I haven’t done that for 4 months now. . . I just hate the waste and worry about what they do to my body!
I am really excited about this video, and hope that it will be the first of several about how women connect with their fertility cycles on a spiritual level.
Back when I first started making Lunapads, I was intrigued by Goddess spirituality and would often participate in women’s rituals around Vancouver in the company of my Goddess-loving BFF, Signy Wilson. They were very moving and beautiful and I fondly remember the power and magic of being in community with other women in this unique way. What has stayed with me from those experiences is a profound sense of Sisterhood (chief among Lunapads’ core values) as well as a deep awareness of my connection to Nature’s other cyclical mysteries via my menstrual cycle.
We’ve had a great time celebrating Women’s Month with some awesome theme giveaways for Girls and Teens, Pregnant Gals, and Fence-sitters. It’s not too late to enter any of these, so for any of you who fall into these categories, read the posts and add your comment for a chance to win some Lunapads goodies!
For this final giveaway post we are looking for women who have recently switched to our products (post fence-sitters, if you will!) to talk about this very thing. In other words, what making the switch was like, how it may have surprised you or differed from your expectations, or what kind of a difference it has made for you.
New Lunagals, tell us your stories!
Post your comment below for a chance to win 1 of 3 $25 Lunapads.com Gift Certificates. Winners will be announced in our April newsletter, so stay tuned!
Last week we had our menstruation party at Grand Valley State University, and today we finished our project with an in class presentation on our experience. I wanted to say thank you for the Lunapads donations and support of our menstruation party! I also wanted to tell you a little about the event.
We had 15 guests, plus the two of us for a grand total of 17. It ended up being a really good number for discussion. We had originally planned for activities to take up most of the party, but we ended up having a dialogue that lasted almost an hour. Women were really excited to talk about their experiences in a positive atmosphere, and everyone really opened up about both positive and negative experiences. There was such a diverse range of experiences that ranged from happy to sad to touching. It was really very moving, everyone was very open and supportive, and we could not have asked for a better outcome.
On top of the discussion, we had red-themed refreshments and decorations, created pages for a zine, and made menstruation-positive t-shirts.
This post is about a few random things, but is mostly just a bit of background on the funniest video we’ve made so far. It’s probably best to just go ahead and watch it first, then come back to read the rest of the post to learn how it all happened.
Was that funny or what? My favorite part is the soundtrack in the elevator. Seriously, go there – the food is really good, too!
Some background: when I first started dating my husband, he was living in LA, so I often flew down for little visits with him. We headed to the Encounter restaurant in LAX for dinner one time after he picked me up and loved it. Subsequent trips to LA have not allowed for repeat visits, but it always provokes fond memories and a laugh when we happen to be there. Suzanne and I were recently passing through LAX and I told her the story about it, not realizing that we would be stuck waiting for 5 hours there 2 days later. When that happened, I insisted that we head over for lunch. To our delight we discovered that the Encounter was still going strong, lava lamps, kooky elevator soundtrack and all!
Inspired by a magnificent red lava lamp, we decided to make a video with a new product that we had just discovered: Wysi Wipes. In case you don’t have the patience for the video, Wysi Wipes are handy-dandy little personal wipes that require only a bit of water to work their magic, and are biodegradable to boot.
As DivaCup users and Moms, we immediately appreciated their potential usefulness. One of those situations where what looked bad a first actually turned into something pretty good. Enjoy, and don’t forget that for April we are offering 2 free Wysi Wipes (packaged in a Pochette) with all orders over $50, plus Wysi Wipe 12 packs are intro-priced at $2.99!
