101 Reasons to #DitchtheDisposables Giveaway

It’s that time of year again, when self improvement abounds and folks start making a plan for betterment in 2016. We have a simple suggestion for you – a small change with big impact, both personally and globally – make 2016 the year you ditch the disposables and choose a better option for your period.

There are so many reasons to make the switch to reusable menstrual products. More and more people are using Lunapads, Lunapanties, or The DivaCup – for reasons as diverse as the users themselves. Here’s our top 5 reasons why you should make the switch:

  • Have a planet-friendly period. 20 billion disposable menstrual products end up in North American landfills annually. Many contain surfactants, pesticide residues, and traces of dioxin – all of which contribute to landfill gas, a highly toxic chemical soup that impacts the quality and safety of our air. These harmful chemicals can also leach into our groundwater, lakes, and streams, contaminating our environment and posing a health risk to all living things. Lunapads are made with 100% cotton and each replaces over 120 disposable pads or tampons, helping you protect the earth and reduce your carbon footprint.
  • Redefine your period. Stop supporting companies that use oppressive marketing campaigns and shame to sell you their products. All bodies deserve respect and care. Our collection of bold reusables in a variety of prints & designs allow you the freedom to express your personal style, disrupt the status quo, and give your period a fresh new start. With performance you can trust, and comfort unparalleled by any disposable, Lunapads can help transform your period experience into something with 100% more chill.
  • Break the monthly spending cycle. Disposable pads and tampons cost more than their reusable counterparts because you have to keep buying them every month. Our products provide an economical alternative, empowering you to manage your period independently and on your own terms. Making the switch is a smart investment that will save you hundreds over time, keeping extra cash in your pocket.
  • Champion education for girls in the developing world. Educated girls marry later, have fewer & healthier babies, and can more confidently claim their rights and freedoms. Through One4Her, for every Lunapad purchased, students in East Africa receive Ugandan-made AFRIpads to support their school attendance; a vital key to a brighter and more empowered future.

I’ve switched to reusable menstrual products initially because I was looking for new ways to save monies and to live a more sustainable life, the ecofriendly aspect was a plus obvioulsy, then I discovered that cloth pads are so comfortable and they made me feel claner and are also so easy to use , I was sold!

  • Jennifer

I have an innate drive to live naturally. I switched to a cup and cloth pads about a year ago. Lunapads are very comfortable. Disposables, I now realize, caused me discomfort/pain. 2 or 3 months after switching to natural products, my periods shortened. I love cloth! My daughter just started her cycle and is using cloth pads, too.

I just revieved my first Lunapads in the mail today! I’m ditching disposables after a damaging yeast infection that caused me to reevaluate what I put in my body and against my skin. The more research I did about how “sanitary” pads aren’t necessarily sanitary, the more convinced I was to switch. Mentally, using Lunapads helps the stigma that your period is a disgusting and nasty monthly occurrence… I’m actually excited for my period this month; I think my body will be much happier!!!

  • Mary

Disposable pads make me have an allergic reaction!

  • LilSugarMag (Meri Temudo)

Disposables make you have this idea that something so natural is something that should be ashamed of or thrown away. With reusables, you accept your body more and redefine society’s view on menstruation.

  • TimandDeb VerBerkmoes

My daughter used them for the first time and loved them. Only pads that didn’t leak!

Supporting women-owned menstrual companies offering environment- and body-friendly products seemed like the most feminist way to handle my period. Plus, the cute patterns and cost savings never hurt!

I’m helping my daughter make smart decisions about her own body, by making smart choices about my own. She has already been using reusables, and I would like to see her continue to do so.

They are better for the enviroment and better for ourselves. I would like these for my daughter.

I hate the amount of waste that people produce, and love reusing everything that I can. I have been using a diva cup for 15 years and luna pads for 8+ years. They feel better for my body to us, and feels better to know I am producing that much less waste.
