Meet Alysha

Hello, world! Just like Paul Simon once sang, you can call me Al. I’m the newest addition to the “Lunahive”, coming on as Assistant to Madeleine (our Co-Founder and Creative Director). What you can expect from me includes working on some new creative content for Lunapads.com (like blogging, social media, writing and making videos) and eagerly jumping in to help our amazing team here where ever I can! You may come to know me as a filmmaker, girls-group facilitator, intersectional feminist, queer daydreamer, and burrito-eater.

I came to know Lunapads when I was 18 while perusing the pages of Rookie Mag (you can check out this guest blog I wrote about it almost three years ago). I was working for The KidSafe Project Society running their after-school program for inner-city at-risk girls aged 10 to 12. Around the same time, Madeleine was in the early stages of planning the very first G Day for Girls event in Vancouver, and after meeting her for coffee one day, she invited me to come on as an advisor for G Day. Now, I’m a board member for the United Girls of the World Society and working on the 6th G Day in Victoria on October 16th, 2016! Time really flies when you’re working with such inspiring people. So while I’m helping at Lunapads, I’ll also be and taking on a few administrative tasks for G Day.

When I’m not working with Lunapads, G Day and other youth-serving organizations, I am usually making or working on a film, video or other art project. I studied filmmaking at Simon Fraser University’s School for the Contemporary Arts with a focus on theory and gender studies. My films explore queer and feminist ideas and identities in digital and analogue media, and have been screened in various film festivals in Canada, the U.S. and Europe.

Joining the “Lunahive” is a total dream-come-true for me because I get to be a part of a feminist and mission-driven business that is supporting people of all ages, genders, and locations having a greater understanding of their bodies and the Earth. You can keep up with me on Instagram, if you’re into that sort of thing.
