Construction and Performance

Pad Base: 2 Layer, 100% cotton flannel base topped with an absorbent panel made of 2 layers of cotton fleece, and 1 layer of PUL to prevent soaking through. Nickel-free, Silver-plated brass single snap fastening.
Insert: 2 layers of 100% cotton fleece.

A single pad will get you through an entire day of your cycle; just change your insert as needed. Inserts will last approximately as long (per use) as a comparably-sized disposable pad or tampon. Unlike most disposable pads, Lunapads do not contain any added chemicals, gels, or super absorbent polymers. Given this, Lunapads users need to be mindful of changing their inserts as frequently as their flow dictates to prevent soaking through the pad base. Frequent changing of inserts significantly enhances the comfort and performance of our pads.

Wash and Care

Lunapads can be easily washed by hand or machine in any temperature with your regular detergent. Pre-soaking or rinsing in cold water prior to washing is recommended (but not always necessary) if your pad is heavily saturated. Do not soak for longer than 24 hours.

We recommend natural cleaning products such as Nellie’s All Natural Laundry Soda for regular cleaning, and Buncha Farmers Stain Remover to perk up stained Lunapads. Heavily stained pads may also benefit from occasional machine wash and dry in hot settings or air drying in direct sunlight.

Please avoid the use of chlorine bleach or fabric softeners to clean your Lunapads, as this will decrease the performance of the products and is harmful to the environment.

Allow for a 5-10% rate of shrinkage after washing.

How to Use

Wrap pad wings around the gusset of your underwear and close the snap to secure. The absorbent fleece panel should be facing up towards your body. Incorrect placement may result reduced comfort and performance of the pad.

Inserts can be added as desired by sliding the ends under the ric-rac bands on your pad. Multiple inserts may be stacked for increased absorbency. Pads can be refreshed as desired by removing and replacing the insert(s). Please note that inserts cannot be worn without a pad.

Great starter kit, but extra inserts needed for heavy flowReview by Jenny
This was my first purchase of lunapads and I like them a lot, but I did need to add quite a few more inserts in order to make it through my period. They are great to have, but thinking back I should've just went with the lunapanties w/inserts and/or performa pads from the start...both of these options are great for heavy flow and are less bulky/shifty than the pads. Mind. Blown.Review by Gremlin1
I really was getting tired of the discomfort I constantly had to deal with from disposable products. I researched options and discovered Lunapads. I read all the reviews and honestly thought that the claims of less bleeding, cramping, and general discomfort were unlikely, but I would really appreciate just getting rid of chafing and rashes. I ordered this kit with a few supplementary post partum pads due to my heavy bleeding. After 4 months I have discovered that those previous claims were very true in my case as well as no chafing and no more rashes. I still have very heavy bleeding, but not for as long. My period is the most comfortable it has ever been. I'm peri menopausal, so that's a significant amount of time. If you suffer from heavy periods, this kit is for you. It is a significant investment, but the money is well spent just for the comfort level alone! (Posted on 2/8/2016)
Best kit in my opinion Review by Trish
If you want to buy one kit to try this product, this is the one. It has everything you need for heavy flow. The postpartum insert is perfect for your heaviest night. Sleep all night with it without any leaks. The longer pads are better than the shorter ones that come in other sets, giving great coverage, absorbency, and comfort. So much better than disposable pads, I hated the odor, feel and sound of them when you walked. My cramps have subsided since using Lunapads by 90%. Best way to clean them is to just soak them in a large Tupperware type container overnight. I have a gallon sized one. Drain off the water into the toilet , you will be amazed that your pads are stain free! Then just toss in the laundry with your regular clothes. (Posted on 12/30/2015)
Make the switch!Review by vgirl
I'm a 41 year old who recently started having multiple vaginal infections and hemorrhoids. After reading about sensitivities to pads/tampons, I decided to make the switch. I purchased the mini pantyliner kit first and was pleased with the ease of purchase/shipping and product. Lunapads were easy to wear and easy to clean. After 2 months I decided to make the transition, thinking that I could use cloth during the day and go back to the disposables for night, when my flow is heavier and there might be leaks. Well, I was so comfortable during the first day that I decided to try the overnight pad with inserts on the first night and it was amazing!! Fully protected (coverage was amazing), comfortable and now at the end of my cycle, when I would normally be into a full blown infection with hemorroids, I am completely free of those complaints!! So thankful after suffering with this for so many cycles! Thank you, Lunapads! Just a note that I did also purchase several extra inserts for the long and overnight, as I wanted to be able to change them frequently and also to stack them for extra protection. As others have said, there is a small amount of shrinkage after the first wash, however the pads in this kit provide good coverage. Very pleased! (Posted on 9/3/2015)
amazing deal Review by Paige
I love this kit! I bought it over a year ago and it is still amazing! I have more than enough to get through a cycle. My favourite one is the over night pad! I am temped to buy more of just that one! That extra length is perfect during night when you are moving around. They are so comfortable and I love being able to adjust to the flow (light, medium, heavy) by adding more layers or taking it away. But seriously, I love Lunapads and will never go back to plastic pads again! Make the switch today! (Posted on 5/29/2015)
amazing product!! Review by jinthemidwest
I am absolutely thrilled with these pads! They are so comfortable... I will never go back to the plastic pads again. They are super durable and very cute. I have a very heavy flow but I've never had leaking problems. My only suggestion to anyone buying these is don't get the black pads or inserts. It's just hard to tell how soaked they are or if they get completely clean. I got the variety pack and there was only like 2 that were black, so it was no big deal. My only regret is that I didn't know about these YEARS ago! Such a great product!!! (Posted on 12/12/2014)
ConvertedReview by Rana
I ordered this kit after reading how disposables could be contributing to my cramps/pelvic pressure, heavy flow and length of period. I didn't really believe they would help, but I was desperate, I couldn't go through 10 days of torture a month any longer. My mother had a hysterectomy when she was not much older than I am now due to fibroids, not wanting to follow in her path I was willing to try anything.

They arrived on my first day, the cramps were well underway. I washed 1 to try it out, within an hour I tell you my cramps started subsiding. An hour. I washed the rest of the kit. It took a couple of hours to get used to the feel, not that it was uncomfortable, they're so just different from disposables that you're used to. It's like you know what's going on down there and want to make sure it's taken care of and a change makes you a little nervous. But I had no leaks, and I have (had) very heavy flow (overnight maxi every 20 minutes for the first couple of days).

My cramps didn't return that cycle. My flow was still very heavy but not as heavy as normal (for me) and the Lunapads did their job. I thought it was a fluke, I mean how could cloth pads make such a difference so quickly? I still can't wrap my head around it. I'm on my fourth cycle since buying my starter kit and while I do get some uncomfortable reminders when I'm on my period I wouldn't call them cramps as they are so minimal. I have added more inserts and an extra overnight so I don't have to launder everyday.

My care ritual is to rinse until water is clear, then add to an ice cream bucket lined with a mesh bag that has fresh water (daily) in it and it sits in a cupboard in the bathroom. When it's time to wash I just zip up the bag, dump the whole bucket into the washer (water included cuz why not?) with whatever load is in there. No fabric softener. I'll start the drying off in the dryer but end up taking them out when almost done to lay them flat to finish because they do bunch up and fold over in the bag.

I've recommended these to every woman I know. (Posted on 12/18/2013)
Spares for days!Review by Mapy
I recently had to get rid of my old pads (I had a starter kit since 2009, I think) because I forgot (yes yes, I forgot) them in the ceramic pot I used to soak them in... Needless to say, a month later, they had the foulest scent you've ever inhaled. SO ANYWAY. I wasn't too mad at myself, since they were the ones with the plastic snaps and I was glad to get new ones.

WHAT A GREAT BUY. Seriously, they are SO CUTE (I got the ones with owls!) and so soft, and I only had small + long ones, so now I have the extra-long for nights and I'll finally stop worrying about leaks! My BF was like "you ordered a ton!" and I said "YESSSS NOW I'LL NEVER RUN OUT AND HAVE TO BUY SINGLE-USE PADS".

Thanks, Lunapads! (Posted on 6/4/2013)
Love it!Review by JenJen
I love my Lunapads. I can't imagine ever going back to disposables. These are so comfortable, and actually offer better protection than disposable pads. Disposable pads always seem to slip around, but these stay in place. I've had no leaks, even at night. For cleaning, I keep a little bucket in my shower and scrub them out by hand. At the end of the week, I run them through the washer on hot. My only regret is that I didn't find out about these when I was younger. I started having periods 27 years ago and this is the first time in my life that I actually don't mind them. Thank you. :) (Posted on 4/13/2012)
Best choice! All you need!Review by mommieP
I previously ordered the heavy flow starter kit, which I love! But realize that it would have been a better choice to just order this deluxe kit. It has all I need for a 5 day cycle and allows me to have extras around in case. Best value-save some money buying this kit ! Great deal!!! (Posted on 11/9/2011)

Lunapads How-to Guide

Reusable menstrual products are eco-friendly, money-saving, healthy alternatives to disposable pads and tampons. Lunapads will last well over 5 years with recommended use and care! While individual use may vary, we estimate that a single Lunapad replaces 120 disposable pads or tampons.

A Conversation about The DivaCup

There are lots of reasons to switch from tampons to The DivaCup; convenience, comfort, your health, the environment, financial savings & more. This first episode in our new video series shares the personal accounts of a group of DivaCup users, and explores what motivated each woman to try this innovative menstrual solution.

Why Switch to Lunapads?

Roughly 20 billion pads, tampons and applicators are sent to North American landfills annually. Each menstruating person in North America will throw away an estimated 16,800 disposable pads or tampons in their lifetime; products that require hundreds of years to biodegrade. Imagine the difference we could make if we chose to ditch the disposables.
