Construction and Performance

The DivaCup is made of a high quality, soft healthcare grade silicone that starts as a liquid. Then the molecules are bound together (or vulcanized) with very high heat to form a solid stable piece of silicone (similar to the feel of soft rubber). The DivaCup is cured after production in an oven at a very high temperature to make sure all the molecules are bound and “chain linked” together. Since the end product is a solid material yet flexible and durable, there is no possibility for anything to leak into the body (no leaching).

This form of silicone is odorless, latex-free, plastic-free and BPA-free. It has been used safely in healthcare applications for over 50 years and is approved for use in The DivaCup as feminine hygiene protection by the FDA and Health Canada.

Wash and Care

The DivaCup should be thoroughly cleaned at least twice a day (do not wear continuously for longer than 12 hours at a time.) Washing the cup in mild soap and warm water provides sufficient cleansing. The best cleaning agent to use is The DivaWash. We have formulated it as a pH balanced wash that is best for the cup and you, because it does not leave residue.

Remember to wash your hands before inserting and removing your DivaCup.

The DivaCup’s top quality, healthcare grade silicone can tolerate high temperatures. At the end of each cycle The DivaCup should be washed and rinsed as specified and then submerged in an open pan of boiling water (continuous rolling boil) for twenty (20) minutes. Do not leave the boiling pot unattended and use enough water so that the pan does not boil dry.

Do not use vinegar, tea tree oil, scented soap, antibacterial soap, hydrogen peroxide, bleach, rubbing alcohol or harsh chemicals as these may damage the silicone and ruin the cup. We do not recommend cleaning The DivaCup in the dishwasher because chemicals, detergents and residue from previous dishwashing could harm the cup.

After use and proper cleaning, the cup must be placed in a storage that allows for air flow. The DivaCup comes with its own drawstring cotton pouch.

The four holes under the rim of the DivaCup are of vital importance. They create the seal that secures the cup in place. If the holes need extra cleaning, we suggest that you fill the cup with warm water. Cover the top with your palm, sealing it up. Turn it upside down (still sealed by your palm) and then, apply pressure to the sides of The DivaCup pushing the water out through the sides. This removes residue left in the holes. To clean the stem and/or holes, you can also soak the cup in warm water for a few minutes then use a soft toothbrush (specifically designated only for the cup) for this. You can use a toothpick (discarding after use), as well. We do not suggest a pin as it may cause damage to the cup.

How to Use

On your first trial with The DivaCup, make sure you are relaxed and have time to read the User Guide thoroughly beforehand. Insertion and removal will only take a few seconds once you master the technique.

Wash your hands well with warm water and soap. Rinse. While sitting or standing in a comfortable position, insert your DivaCup according to the following instructions.

Step 1: "U" Fold - Moisten the rim of The DivaCup with water if needed. Press the sides of the cup together and then fold it in half again. You can also do the "Push Down" fold by placing a finger on the top rim of the cup and pressing it down into the center of the inside base to form a triangle.

Step 2: Hold - Hold the folded sides firmly between your thumb and forefinger. The single curved edge should be facing away from your palm.

Step 3: Insert - With the vaginal muscles relaxed, gently separate the labia with your free hand and then push the curved edge of the folded DivaCup into the vaginal opening.

Step 4: Removal - Wash your hands well with warm water and soap. Rinse. Pull gently on the stem until you can reach the base of the cup. Pinch the base of the cup to release the seal and continue to pull down to remove. The contents should not spill during removal. Simply empty the contents in the toilet, wash it well with warm, soapy water, and reinsert.

Not the right size for me...Review by Dreena
I'm over 30 and have had two children... but size 2 for me didn't feel right, it sort of pinched, wanted to turn sideways, wanted to buckle or push too hard on me while inside. I bought a size 1 and it fit much better! This leaves me to tell all other women, just because you had children or are over 30 doesn't absolutely mean you are the larger size! (Posted on 10/16/2017)
The DivaCup is my new best friend (and I hated tampons)Review by Jean
I was fed up last month. So tired of using a million pads and tampons, dealing with tampon discomfort, and bloody leaks on everything. Since having kids, my "average" period has gone to what feels like a bloody massacre every month.

So I went on a shopping spree and got a DivaCup along with a few period panties (I highly recommend the LunaPanty boxer brief for overnights).

I've always had issues with tampons. They never seem to go in correctly and often chafe or fall out or leak. I was nervous that as a result, the cup would not work well either, but that's not the case at all. It is very comfortable compared to tampons--no sticking or dry rubbing. It slides in easily and seems to fit into place better than any tampons have. It also feels cleaner because there's less leaking happening.

I've only been using this thing for one day, so I'm fumbling a bit but already I can tell this is going to work out very well and I am psyched! With period panties as a comfy back up, I think I'm going to find my period much more tolerable than it was before. (Posted on 8/10/2017)
Way too bigReview by Disappointed
So many women say they love the diva cup. After having two babies I have a low cervix and the diva cup just doesn't fit. I could get it in, seal, etc. Came out easy enough. I love the idea of it and the convenience but it sticks out, which is uncomfortable at best. Make sure you check on your cervix and sizing for diva. Google will tell you how to find out if your cervix is high, medium, or low and if diva will work for you. You can order smaller cups off Amazon that can't otherwise find in Canada (Posted on 7/9/2017)
Best Product for Lady BusinessReview by tinker99
I have been using my DivaCup for over 2 years. I have only ever washed it with the DivaWash (I've had the same bottle for over a year, it lasts). I even ordered an extra cup last year just in case anything ever happens to the original, so I won't ever have to be without it. It is so much better than tampons. It has definitely saved me money and is obviously much better for the planet. It offers nearly perfect protection. I admit on the heavy days I cannot go without extra protection (it's a seal issue), but I usually wear a lunapad even on light days, just in case! It holds a good amount, but I wouldn't say 12 hours worth. It is so nice to be able to go to the ladies room without figuring out where to hide my tampon on the way. I feel like it has decreased the length of my cycle slightly as well. It is easy enough to insert (takes a little practice) and unnoticeable once placed properly. It can be worn in the bathtub! When I used tampons, almost every month I would experience a problem after my cycle, either a yeast infection or irritability. I have not had a single yeast infection in 2 years! I would never switch back to tampons. Ever! (Posted on 3/16/2017)
Once you get used to it you will never look back!Review by Life Saver
I love my diva cup. This is the best thing for your period so natural and good for your body. No more infections after using this gem. (Posted on 3/8/2017)
Diva cup is Amazing Review by 5 stars
I got my diva cup and it really was life changing and amazing. I will never go back to tampons. I would definitely recommend this to everyone out there. (Posted on 8/28/2015)
The Diva Cup works greatReview by HappyWoman
I bought The Diva Cup Size 2 and highly recommend it. I learned very quickly how to use it - within my first period using the cup I got the hang of it. I practiced before actually having my period although this is not recommended since you need to have the moisture your period provides to make the cup easy to remove. Anyway I found the perfect position for me to insert and remove the cup which is kneel down sitting (buttocks touching my heels, legs spread out a little bit). I experienced 0% leaking on a heavy period and busy day. I empty the cup every 12 hours and still don't fill it up on a heavy day. The customer service was wonderful and I'm thrilled because I have stopped throwing pads or tampons to the landfill. Xoxo. (Posted on 6/27/2015)
Life-changingReview by Rebecca
As a young girl, I struggled with pads and tampons and trying to find a way just to make it through my periods without pain. Pads were cumbersome, constantly bunched, and simply didn't work well shoved between my thick thighs. Tampons were difficult to insert, often painful, and contributed to severe cramping and shooting pains every single time I tried to use one. I don't know if it's just that I am more sensitive than others, have a larger cervix than others, have a shallower canal than others, or a combination of all three, but tampons were a struggle, and I often simply went without using anything at all because the pain, discomfort, and frustration wasn't worth it - back then, I'd often rather bleed through clothing or wear more than one pair of panties. It was only well into adulthood that I heard about menstrual cups, and just over three years ago, I finally purchased one. I have used it ever since. After I started using it, my cramps stopped almost completely. The only cramping I get now is seldom and very, very mild. I used to get severe shooting pains because of tampons, but this has not happened once, not a single time, since changing to a cup. It is incredibly easy to use, easy to insert, easy to remove, easy to empty, easy to clean, and has immensely improved the time I spend during my moon time. No more shooting pains, no more struggling with inserting/removing tampons, no more crying in the bathroom while I try to reposition a tampon that isn't in quite right, no more dreading every period. I've never had any problems with "losing" the cup - it sits right where it's supposed to and has never been out of reach. I never feel it when it's in, and again, it is very easy to insert when folded and equally as to remove by grasping the little ridged bottom and stem. Like I said... life-changing. Cannot believe I didm't switch sooner!Review by Jamie
I LOVE the diva cup!! For those of you thinking it will be messy or gross, this is just not true! I find it much cleaner than tampons and pads. There was a bit of a learning curve with putting it in and taking it out (it is not the same as putting in/taking out a tampon), but after reading the instructions a couple of times it is really simple. The first time I left it in overnight I could not retrieve it initially when I got up in the morning. I did not panic, just left it alone for a little bit after i got up and re-read the instructions. I easily got it after that. I also find it much more comfortable and most of the time cannot feel it in at all! Overall, as long as you can adjust your methods slightly and you are not afraid of becoming a bit more intimate with your body, the diva cup will soon be on your favourites list!! So glad I made the switch! (Posted on 5/12/2015)
Sooooo much better than tampons!!!Review by Robyn
I switched to the Diva Cup a few years ago and have never looked back! This is easy to use (even in a public washroom) and i feel so much better putting this into my body than a gross tampon. It did take a few cycles to get the hang of but now it's easy peasy. Also way less going into the landfill! Yay!! (Posted on 1/15/2015)
It's a miracle!Review by AnjO
I am using my Diva Cup for the first time today. I have to admit it was slightly difficult to insert for the first time. And, after I did, I was not sure it was in correctly. However, several hours later, when checking on it, I realized it was working beautifully!! And my second try at inserting it was a breeze. This is the first time ever I am no longer dreading my flow! I am thrilled beyond belief that I no longer have to deal with the mess of my period! And, it's an eco friendly choice, which feels great, too. Bye bye to tampons and disposable pads for me!! Amazing! I wish I had found it sooner!Review by Cara
I've tried it all. Sanitary pads feel like diapers and when I would try to get some relief by using tampons they would leak or I would be constantly freaking out about TSS. My friend sent me a free subscription to Cosmopolitain magazine and as I was skimming through it on night a little over a year ago I saw and advertisement for Diva Cup. Immediately it sparked my interest because I had never herd of such a thing. It's perfect. I followed the directions on what size to get (2) and have never had any problems. It was a little hard to get use to at first, but I just had to figure out what fold worked best for me. In the beginning I had some trouble with leaking, but now when I'm on my period it's like I'm not. I cramp less and there's never any mess. Just a quick rinse and sometimes wash and ur done. I can even sleep easy knowing I'm not gonna wake up in the middle of the night and have to strip my bed, which I'm sure we have all done a time or two regardless if u use pads or tampons. Please don't give up on it. Not only is it SAFE, but once u get the hang of it it makes being a woman so much easier once a month. :) (Posted on 12/12/2014)
Fantastic for biking with!Review by Heather
I have never had a heavy or uncomfortable period but I do a lot of biking and pads don't work with all the sweat and friction and due to my lighter flow tampons have always been drying and generally just uncomfortable. For so long I figured that because I do have a light period the cup wasn't right for me but I finally decided to try it out and wow am I hooked after just 2 days.

Day 1 I biked in an event that goes from Vancouver to Whistler, 122kms. I was nervous to try to something new during such an event but decided it was better than dealing with any alternatives (fyi you're not supposed to wear underwear with padded biking shorts, they're not designed for it). Sure it took me a few minutes to figure out how to insert the cup but once it was in and I was on my bike I forgot all about it. Along the ride the rest stops were all porta potties and wow was I grateful to not be dealing with tampons in there. 6 hours later I was done my ride and so happy that I didn't have to worry about the cup for another 6 hours that even though my legs were tired I felt like going dancing :)
Day 2 the cup was already easier to insert and again I just forgot about it for the entire day, even while swimming. I can't believe it really is that easy and comfortable. I have no idea why I didn't listen to all the reviewers before me and just tried this product out ages ago! (Posted on 12/11/2014)
10 reasons I love Diva Cup!Review by Stephanie
1) No need to 'reposition' or 'adjust' like tampons, which slip and fall after they've gotten bloated and heavy. Diva Cup stays in place.
2) No little bits of cotton left behind by tampons.
3) No adhesive residue or glue on panties or thighs.
4) NO vaginal drying! Diva Cup catches your period rather than sucking your natural moisture like a tampon does.
5) No leaks; insert it securely and it catches all until you empty it. (Unlike a tampon, which absorbs up to a certain point and then gives up.)
6) Soo much easier to travel cute little pink pouch in my purse or backpack so it's there when I need it, vs. scrambling to find a place that sells a bulky box of pads or tampons.
7) Soo much easier on my wallet. My first cup for $35 bucks lasted years, whereas acceptable-quality tampons used to cost me ~ $10 each month!!
8) No mess in my bathroom trash bin.
9) For those who might visit nude beaches in summer (ahem, just as an example), no telltale dangling strings. :)
10) And the biggest and best reason: It saves all that landfill waste.

This is honestly life-changing.Review by Vicki
I've been using my DivaCup for almost five years now, and it's probably one of the greatest discoveries of my young life. I'm on this site buying a new one, as my trusty old cup is unfortunately finally getting old and needing replacing. This is the best thing you can have if you're going traveling and aren't into carrying a bunch of pads and tampons around in your bag all the time. I've also recommended it to a friend who needed a period solution for when she did marathons and triathlons and she loves it.
It might sound a bit cheesy, but I think it's really important for women to get familiar with their bodies and their menstrual cycles, and using this cup is a great way to get started getting familiar with your lady parts and how your flow changes throughout your cycle. I've tried another menstrual cup (I can't remember the name, but it's made of brown rubber and doesn't have the grips on the stem, which are surprisingly important) which wasn't as leak-proof as this one. On heavy days, I'll use a liner and be set the entire day without having to worry about needing to find a toilet to change my tampon throughout the day.
It's saved me tons of money (tampons are so expensive!) and trouble/time washing sheets, underwear, and other junk. There's also a great online community that'll help you if you have some anxiety when you're getting started. Just keep an open mind and it'll change your life, promise. (Posted on 12/11/2014)
Not worth itReview by butrfly
I purchased the product 5 years ago thinking what a great concept in helping reduce landfill waste. It was difficult to adjust to having something awkwardly shaped in you but I managed and eventually felt a sense of pride/relief knowing that I didn’t have to spend so much money on pads. Then a year passed and I started noticing that the Divacup was becoming more and more of a hassle. As my period started to change and become slightly irregular so did the protection of the Divacup. During the months that my period was light and liquidy, the Divacup worked perfectly; for the heavier months with a gooier texture the Divacup was useless. No matter how many times I followed the instructions and comments in adjusting the cup, it still did absolutely nothing (I had to start wearing pads while on the Divacup). I even went as far as buying a new one (yes the appropriate size for a young adult), and still had to deal with the same problem every month.

I’ve given Divacup so many chances over the years hoping that maybe this time it would work and every time it has failed me. It’s been frustrating having to go to the washroom so often in the day just to make sure it is not leaking.

So for those of you who have similar periods to me (or heavier/more irregular) DON’T EVEN BOTHER. It is a waste of money (unless you want to buy a new one every friggen year) and you’ll always be wondering (and sometimes even feeling) is my period leaking through? Stick to ecofriendly pads.

Awesome!Review by Bombular
First of all, I need to say that yes, there is a learning curve. If you're not comfortable with your own body... Get so, so you can use this product.

It saved my butt. Seriously. I work at a coffee shop, and while working my shift alone the other night, I got slammed by a rush that went on much longer than a tampon would have held up. At that moment, I knew I was never going back.

Also, for those of you who think it'll be grosser than a tampon: it's not. I would rather empty a diva cup 1000000000 times than take out a soaked tampon again. (Posted on 12/11/2014)
WARNINGReview by Eek
I just had a horrifying and awful experience that I wish I'd been warned about before buying this product... I had been well on my way to loving the cup- no tampons, environmentally friendly, suitable comfort etc. However, as I could feel my cup begin to 'runneth over', I headed to the bathroom to empty it. When I reached for it, it was gone. It had migrated so high that I couldn't get a hold on it and nothing I did with my pelvic muscles was going to help the fact. I spent 20min, with tears streaming down my face, trying to coax it out. During the whole ordeal I couldn't help but picture my visit to the ER... It didn't come to that but this has made me think twice about Diva. (Posted on 12/11/2014)
Amazing productReview by Jamie
I don't usually leave reviews, but I must say that after 8 years of using the Diva Cup, I appreciate this product so much that I thought I would share my experience. When I discovered that there was an alternative to tampons I was THRILLED. Tampons give me terrible cramps, can be potentially life-threatening, and just have always seemed all around unhygienic to me( the smell, the chemicals, the string hanging out). The Diva Cup is the exact opposite! In my experience it is incredibly comfortable, eco-friendly, cost-effective, safe, and cleaner. My period is quite heavy on the first day or two, and yet, with the cup I RARELY have any leaks. I also noticed a reduction in cramps because the cup sits low and comfortably. The cup has made my periods so manageable that I can just go about my life without any inconvenience. Can't recommend this product enough, SERIOUSLY!!! (Posted on 12/11/2014)
If at first you don't succeed, try try again! Review by Caroline
I have been using the DivaCup for about 9 years and I love it. I read a few of the bad reviews today and I wanted to add my positive review to help any potential buyers. You have to give it some time. You have to be patient and relaxed. You might need to do some internet research for how to get the perfect seal to avoid leaks. You will probably also need to experiment with different ways to insert the cup. Do not give up! It took me a few months and lots of adjusting, but I am so in love with this product. I would recommend it to anyone, especially if you're tired of wasting money on tampons that leak, are uncomfortable and have to be changed every few hours. Give it some time and you will love it too!! (Posted on 12/11/2014)

Lunapads How-to Guide

Reusable menstrual products are eco-friendly, money-saving, healthy alternatives to disposable pads and tampons. Lunapads will last well over 5 years with recommended use and care! While individual use may vary, we estimate that a single Lunapad replaces 120 disposable pads or tampons.

A Conversation about The DivaCup

There are lots of reasons to switch from tampons to The DivaCup; convenience, comfort, your health, the environment, financial savings & more. This first episode in our new video series shares the personal accounts of a group of DivaCup users, and explores what motivated each woman to try this innovative menstrual solution.

Why Switch to Lunapads?

Roughly 20 billion pads, tampons and applicators are sent to North American landfills annually. Each menstruating person in North America will throw away an estimated 16,800 disposable pads or tampons in their lifetime; products that require hundreds of years to biodegrade. Imagine the difference we could make if we chose to ditch the disposables.
