Luna Undies FAQ
How do Luna Undies work?
Luna Undies are absorbent, leakproof underwear that completely replace your regular disposable pad or tampon routine. The gusset (that’s a fancy word for crotch!) of Luna Undies has a hidden layer that prevents leaks, and the inside is lined with 100% organic cotton fleece, which is super soft and absorbent.
Luna Undies have an additional, removable absorbent layer, called an Insert. Change the Insert out during the day - just like you would a disposable pad or tampon.
On their own, Luna Undies can absorb the equivalent of 1 disposable pad or tampon. With the Insert, they can absorb up to 2 tampons worth.
Wait, does that mean I have to change my undies part way through the day?!
That’s a 24 Karat, solid gold nope!
Luna Undies feature a removable Insert that you can change throughout the day - by swapping out the Insert, you can wear the same pair of undies all day long and still feel dry and comfortable.
What fabrics are used to make Luna Undies?
Luna Undies are made from super soft cotton spandex jersey, with a hidden leakproof polyurethane laminate lining. The leakproof lining is topped with 100% organic cotton fleece, so you're never in contact with a synthetic material.
All our organic cotton fabrics are GOTS certified. For more information on on the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS), visit globalstandard.org.
Is there a Luna Undies size chart?
But of course! Grab a measuring tape and consult our size chart to find the perfect fit for you. We currently offer Luna Undies in sizes XS through 3XL.
Do I still need to wear a pad or tampon with my Luna Undies?
Luna Undies are meant to completely replace pads and tampons. Some folks use them as back-up to internally worn menstrual products because they like having the added sense of security if their tampon or menstrual cup fails.

What's the difference between MAIA and BOXER Brief undies?
Both MAIA & BOXER Brief Luna Undies feature a removable Insert that you can change throughout the day. This way, you can wear the same undies all day long, even on heavy flow days.
The leakproof lining in the BOXER Brief is a bit longer, extending all the way to the back waistband (which makes them great for overnight!)
Which Inserts can I use in Luna Undies?
Maxi, Long and Overnight Inserts are compatible with Luna Undies. Mini Inserts are not compatible.
XS-L undies come with a Maxi Insert and XL-3XL undies come with a Long Insert.
Where are they made?
Will Luna Undies leak?
We can’t promise a miracle here, but pretty darn close! Any menstrual product will leak if it isn’t changed in a reasonable amount of time. Make sure you choose the right undies for your flow - SELENE styles are only suitable for light flow (unless you want to change your underwear part way through the day).
MAIA and BOXER Brief Luna Undies have a removable Insert that you can change throughout the day, making them the better choice for average to heavy flow.
Can I wear Luna Undies for incontinence or light bladder leaks?
Absolutely. Luna Undies are suitable for mild stress incontinence - the kind of light dribble when you sneeze, laugh or do strenuous exercise. These kind of light bladder leaks are experienced by 1 in 3 over the age of 35.
Take our Matchmaker Quiz for product recommendations for light bladder leaks.
Can I wear Luna Undies while swimming?
Swimming during your period can be tricky. Luna Undies aren’t ideal for swimming because they're worn outside of your body, and will absorb any water they come into contact with - leaving limited room to absorb your period.
Plus, since washing in water is how you get them clean, any menstrual flow already in your undies could seep out into the pool when you get in.
Some people find the blood temporarily stops flowing while swimming because the water pressure holds it in, but only to a point. Once you get out of the water, all bets are off. It *will* start flowing again.
We recommend The DivaCup for swimming, and our Sport Short makes a great alternative to swim bottoms for lounging on the beach, splashing in the waves & more. Read our blog post to learn more about the versatility of the Sport Short for water activities.
How do I wash and care for my Luna Undies?
For best results and to ensure the longevity of your undies, we recommend that you rinse in cool water after use, machine wash in cold and hang to dry.
Use natural laundry products where possible, to protect our environment, and because regular detergents can often contain hidden bleach or fabric softeners that can affect the performance of your Luna Undies. Please avoid the use of chlorine bleach or fabric softeners to clean Luna Undies, as this will decrease the performance and absorbency of the products, in addition to being harmful to the environment.
As with any high quality underwear, using a laundry bag is recommended to ensure the longevity of your Luna Undies, particularly to protect the lace on SELENE styles from getting snagged on your other laundry.
