Our Postpartum Kit is specially designed for postpartum use and includes more Inserts than our other Kits to accommodate very heavy flow.

Postpartum bleeding may last anywhere from a few days to several weeks. If you do not own other Lunapads, you may want to consider supplementing with a few additional Pad & Insert sets in sizes that you would use for your period once it returns, or purchase more than 1 Postpartum Kit. The pads in this kit are also great for overnight use once your period has returned.

Construction and Performance

Pad Base: 2 Layer, 100% cotton flannel base topped with an absorbent panel made of 2 layers of cotton fleece, and 1 layer of PUL to prevent soaking through. Nickel-free, Silver-plated brass single snap fastening.
Insert: 2 layers of 100% cotton fleece.

A single pad will get you through an entire day of your cycle; just change your insert as needed. Inserts will last approximately as long (per use) as a comparably-sized disposable pad or tampon. Unlike most disposable pads, Lunapads do not contain any added chemicals, gels, or super absorbent polymers. Given this, Lunapads users need to be mindful of changing their inserts as frequently as their flow dictates to prevent soaking through the pad base. Frequent changing of inserts significantly enhances the comfort and performance of our pads.

Wash and Care

Lunapads can be easily washed by hand or machine in any temperature with your regular detergent. Pre-soaking or rinsing in cold water prior to washing is recommended (but not always necessary) if your pad is heavily saturated. Do not soak for longer than 24 hours.

We recommend natural cleaning products such as Nellie’s All Natural Laundry Soda for regular cleaning, and Buncha Farmers Stain Remover to perk up stained Lunapads. Heavily stained pads may also benefit from occasional machine wash and dry in hot settings or air drying in direct sunlight.

Please avoid the use of chlorine bleach or fabric softeners to clean your Lunapads, as this will decrease the performance of the products and is harmful to the environment.

Allow for a 5-10% rate of shrinkage after washing.

How to Use

Wrap pad wings around the gusset of your underwear and close the snap to secure. The absorbent fleece panel should be facing up towards your body. Incorrect placement may result reduced comfort and performance of the pad.

Inserts can be added as desired by sliding the ends under the ric-rac bands on your pad. Multiple inserts may be stacked for increased absorbency. Pads can be refreshed as desired by removing and replacing the insert(s). Please note that inserts cannot be worn without a pad.

Great for heavy days and nightsReview by Iris
I have tried different cloth menstrual products - this is my favorite so far. I have extremely heavy flow due to uterus fibroid. I used to need to get up several times per night to change. Now I use the postpartum flannel and one insert on my heavy nights - although they are quite thick, I don't need to get up in the middle of the night anymore! It is also super soft and absorbent. I haven't experienced any leakage so far. I also like the fact that it is easier to wash and dry than the other cloth menstrual pad. I hand wash them at night and they are all dry the next day morning! (Posted on 8/8/2015)
gift that keeps on givingReview by Gisele
I got this set 7 years ago before my daughter was born. Not only were they a lifesaver during the week immediately after giving birth, but they are absolutely wonderful for nighttime use during the two heavy days during my period. I never worry about leaks, and they are comfy as hell. (Posted on 6/5/2015)
I have menorrhagia and I now, I can sleep through the night!Review by Denise
I have severe menorrhagia and usually have to get up 3 or 4 times a night on my during my heaviest flow to avoid soiling my bed. The tri-fold liners in this kit are amazing. They are so soft and very absorbant. These and my Lunablanket now allow me to sleep through the night without worrying about messing up my bed. (Posted on 7/7/2013)
FabuReview by DeafCrunchyCountryMama
I got this kit as my introduction to cloth pads. I loved it all. The only thing I did not like was I got more long inserts than overnight. I think long is meant more for day use than evening/night use. I am definitely going to order more of the overnight pads and the trifold. They worked best for me.

I gave them 5 stars because they met my expectations of cloth pads AND I was SO comfortable in these that I almost forgot I had my monthly. Key word-ALMOST. Kinda hard to miss the purple cloth in your underpants! (Posted on 1/3/2013)
So much more comfortable!Review by Alicia
I'm SO grateful that I stumbled upon Lunapads and this kit while I was pregnant. I was really worried about postpartum bleeding, so I got this kit along with another long pad with 2 extra wing liners. This setup has been perfect for my needs.

After using the hospital diaper/pad hybrids (they were easier on my stitches because of how ridiculously thick the pads are), I switched to these and can't imagine using disposables for this time. They feel icky in comparison! The Lunapads are much more comfortable (and like a previous reviewer said, akin to leaving the hospital and coming home to your own bed). Love them! Easier Post-BabyReview by Stefanie
I got these for after I had my son, and it made the whole post-baby experience much easier. I did a vaginal delivery, but he came out very quickly and I ripped. They gave me these huge pads at the hospital that were disposable and they felt terrible.

When I got home, I switched to these, and they felt so much more comfortable and did not rub against my stitches. I am cloth-diapering my baby, so it was easy to clean them every night with his wash. I recommend using these. Not only are they much more comfortable than the disposable kind, they just feel more comfortable and natural. Leaving those gross thick hospital pads and going to lunapads was akin to leaving the hectic hospital ward and coming home to my own cozy warm bed.

After the heavy bleeding was done, I was able to switch to lunapanties and liners, which were also helpful. I am really glad I discovered these products for this time in my life. (Posted on 2/20/2011)
perfect start for postpartum!Review by Annalise
This was a great starting point for my postpartum needs! SO glad I had these... they are unbelievably comfortable and easy to take care of. I'm never going back to disposables!

IMO this kit plus 4 more long pads/liners and 2 regular pads/liners was the perfect setup for my postpartum needs! (Posted on 2/4/2011)
great for post-partum flow and incontinenceReview by the shortcake
In the weeks after vaginally delivering my wonder twins, which included forceps for each of them and a catheter, i had more than the normal lochia, i had some incontinence. While totally normal after delivery, certainly after a delivery that necessitated a catheter, i was distressed about my inability to control my bladder. happily i purchased, weeks prior to delivery, a postpartum kit in "cocoa kaleidoscope", it was wonderful for the lochia and dynamite with the incontinence, not to mention how super cute the kit was (the incontinence was delivery related and healed )!

Lunapads How-to Guide

Reusable menstrual products are eco-friendly, money-saving, healthy alternatives to disposable pads and tampons. Lunapads will last well over 5 years with recommended use and care! While individual use may vary, we estimate that a single Lunapad replaces 120 disposable pads or tampons.

A Conversation about The DivaCup

There are lots of reasons to switch from tampons to The DivaCup; convenience, comfort, your health, the environment, financial savings & more. This first episode in our new video series shares the personal accounts of a group of DivaCup users, and explores what motivated each woman to try this innovative menstrual solution.

Why Switch to Lunapads?

Roughly 20 billion pads, tampons and applicators are sent to North American landfills annually. Each menstruating person in North America will throw away an estimated 16,800 disposable pads or tampons in their lifetime; products that require hundreds of years to biodegrade. Imagine the difference we could make if we chose to ditch the disposables.
